    Due to the rise of road accidents because of driving under the influence, Minnesota is now using the teeth of the law to pursue drunk drivers. Laws and penalties are imposed upon those who try to break the law. With these come along the abuse of power by law enforcement and the disregard for basic human rights. In order to protect oneself from abuses and other forms of harassment, Minnesota DUI lawyers are needed.

    A DUI lawyer prevents these abuses and harassment from occurring. They protect the basic rights of an individual. Charges that come along with drunk driving that are levied can be studied by Minnesota DUI lawyers.

    There are also factors that could aggravate the offender and increase the penalties. These include .20 or more concentration of alcohol in the blood, having a company of less than 16 years of age in the car while driving under the influence, number of previous convictions within the last ten years, and refusal to a Field Sobriety Tests.     

    A first time offender, which is considered a fourth degree charge, usually has a lesser penalty like a fine of $1000 and/or 90 days imprisonment. In addition, the license will be revoked for 90 days.

    An offender with one aggravating factor present is in the third degree charges. It is charged as gross misdemeanor. The penalties include one-year imprisonment and/ or fine of $3000. The license is also revoked for 180 days. Moreover, offender with former DUI charges are required a 30 days imprisonment.

    An offender with two aggravating factors involve is in the second degree DUI charges. It is charged as gross misdemeanor. The offender is also required to spend 90 days in jail for those with previous two DUI charges. Their license is also revoke for one year.

    An offender with three or more aggravating factors involve is charge as first degree. The penalties include 7 years imprisonment and/or a fine of $7000. Their license is also revoked indefinitely.

    That penalties is a nightmare to people that is why Minnesota DUI lawyers are essential

    There are also under charges that an individual could face aside from DUI charges. These include underage drinking and driving.

    Underage drinking is not considered as felony however, there are stricter penalties that are charged. Penalties include a fine of $1000 and/or imprisonment of 90 days. The license is also revoked and can only be reinstituted if certain criteria are met. These criteria includes completed and passed a written exam for drive’s license, additional three months driving experience, completed formal course of driving lessons, and reaching the age of 18. That is why underage drivers need Minnesota DUI lawyers.

    These penalties and charges are not to be little. Even first time offenders and minors face 90 days of imprisonment and a fine of $1000. Such penalties as the imprisonment places a huge psychological and emotional strain on the shoulder of the offenders particularly the under 18 drivers. There is also the fine of $1000 that could cause financial burden to the person and his or her family. That is why Minnesota DUI lawyers are needed.
