    Crocs for Foot Problems

Love them or hate them, Crocs are kind to your feet. The CrocsRx line (intended for people with diabetes or other circulatory problems) has won all sorts of podiatric seals of approval. Just check out the American Podiatric Medical Association’s website, which lists Crocs as a foot-friendly alternative to flip-flops.

So what makes Crocs so good for your feet?

First of all, Crocs provide a wide and roomy toe box. With lots of wiggle room, the toes can spread out and lie flat. This type of toe box is perfect for people with bunions, calluses, corns and hammertoe – all foot conditions and deformities that are aggravated by shoes with toe boxes that are too tight. Crocs’ roomy toe box is also helpful for people with congenital deformities such as overlapping or underlapping toes. The benefit of this much space for your toes to hang out in is twofold: Crocs will not aggravate any pre-existing conditions, and they will not lead to the development of a new foot injury or deformity.

In addition to the toe box, Crocs offer a supportive heel cup that makes them a potentially excellent choice for people suffering from plantar fasciitis (the inflammation of connective tissue along the bottom of the feet). The contoured foot bed is designed to promote stability and reduce excess pronation. Contributing to this stable ride is the fact that Crocs have a heel strap. One of the biggest problems with flip-flops or backless shoes is that the toes are forced to grip the foot bed in order to keep the foot securely in the shoe. This “gripping” action distorts your stride and puts pressure on your knees.

In addition to these structural benefits, CrocsRx line offers a few additional perks. The Silver Fox and Silver Cloud (both from the CrocsRx line) are made from a material infused with silver particles. The presence of silver in the material of the shoe acts as an anti-fungal and anti-bacterial agent. This helps to eliminate foot odor and, most importantly, foot infections. In addition to the special anti-microbial properties of the shoes, Crocs prevent the spread of infection thanks to their ventilation holes and fast-drying material.

Crocs may not be the shoes for everyone, but they do offer support, protection and anti-microbial properties that make them a good candidate for a lightweight orthopedic shoe. Talk to your doctor if you think Crocs may serve your medical needs.
