The best thing I love about backpacking is that you can make a better cup of coffee deep in the mountain woods than you can in your own living room. We have a backpacking coffee press. Since your average coffee maker would require too many miles of extension cord to take backpacking, it seemed like a logical choice. When my wife and I discovered what the great coffee that coffee presses deliver, we were sold. You can make coffee richer, thicker and tastier with a coffee press, even if you're deep in the wilderness and living off the land.
We loved our backpacking coffee press so much that we decided to look at glass, kitchen coffee presses to see if we could get one for the home. We found a wide selection online and did a few price comparisons. I was very surprised to realize at how affordable a coffee press could be. For around $11 to $15, you get a wide selection of coffee presses to choose from. Considering the most basic coffee maker you can buy will run you at least $20, it's quite a steal.
Although we've found that we like to use our coffee press most on the weekends. It does take a little longer to make a cup of coffee, as you've got to first boil the water and then let it steep for a few minutes. That's a little too complicated for a Monday morning at 6 a.m. Workdays, the convenience of a electric coffee maker over rules our taste preferences for coffee presses. Life is just too hectic during the workweek.
Come the weekend, it's a different story. We're laid back, relaxing, so a coffee press is the perfect choice. We can throw some music on the stereo and take some time to boil water, let it steep a good while and then enjoy a nice relaxing cup of coffee. The flavor is out of this world, as you can actually taste the earth. It's so thick you can chew it, so rich you can feel it blending into your bones. Without a doubt, coffee presses pour the best tasting coffee I've ever had in my life.
Of course, I still say the best cup of coffee I've ever had is from my backpacking coffee press, but that's probably more due to the woods than anything else. Coffee tastes best when your steeped in nature, when you can smell it like the earthy steam of a gorgeous cup of Joe. What's great about coffee presses is that the coffee somehow seems to taste more like nature. You can experience the flavor to your core.
I'm glad I've got a coffee press both for the living room and the woods. Coffee presses have totally changed the way I look at a cup of coffee.
