History of Corbett National Park
Established in 1936 as India’s first national park. Corbett in famous for its wide range of wildlife and its gorgeous location in the foothills of the Himalayas by the Ramganga river. With the current addition of the sonanadi wildlife sanctuary to the west, Corbett has grown from 520 to 1318 sq km.

It may seem out of place for a national park to be named after famous for this book “the Man-Eaters of kumaon”, and was greatly revered by local people for shooting tigers that had developed a liking for human flesh. However, he was instrumental in setting up the reserve and eventually shot more wildlife with his camera than with his gun.
